Same diva

Just another group of young people making music together. Beautiful music.

Tomorrow's love couple

Real people, as it were. Who choose to surgically change themselves into likenesses of dolls.

Our modern society is so decadent.

Letting Go

I'm not sure if this is a Buddhist tradition, or an Indian tradition, but regardless, it's beautiful. Little candles that create fragile balloons which float off into the sky (probably landing and starting brush fires).

We are little candles that float in this world, for a time. This world is a little candle that floats in space, for a time. We're all just points of light, floating.

Quoting Goethe

Beautiful protestor with powerful placard? What's not to love. Protesting power is hot in general.
Art is pretty, always (in its specific way), but subverting myth is especially pretty in my book. In which is written: Once women take over society, the world can truly progress.

Yay Bats!

Look at the development of a cute bat embryo! Or also, Bat See No Evil...
Aww! There are certain bats called "Flying Foxes". See why? And everyone loves foxes, right? Except chicken owners. But who loves chicken owners? No one, not really. They may love the eggs, but not the chickens.

For Gondolin!

Ancient Greek war mask, with form fitting face behind. War has led to a good percentage of human evolution - both in body and technology. Death is the ultimate motivator. For Gondolin! For your dreams!
The 3rd leg of the grand stream, draining Gondolin of stagnant waters and all possibility of flooding. Little round rocks collected for weeks, piled in stacks, laid across the established channel. Erosion prevention is the aim. Beauty a secondary concern.
But it is a concern. Beautiful, is it not?
The water must flow.

Satellite Photographers

Earth and the Moon as pictured by Voyager 1 back in the 70's. Beautiful, haunting, evoking a wonder and loneliness that is life. And the artist is a historical explorer. Yay culture!
Earth and Moon as seen by the Mars Global Surveyor, a craft currently snapping lovely pics on assignment at Mars. MGS is the foremost auteur in Red Planet Studios.
Earth and Moon as seen by the Juno space probe, launched last Summer for a mission to Jupiter. Currently, Juno is getting ready to swing by Earth for the last time, obtaining a huge sling shot of gravity assisted speed which will scoot it on the way to Jupiter in 2016. Prospects there are rated "ridiculously good". The moons of Jupiter in all their glories!
Speaking of Moons - Saturn's got a lot of them. But, see that bright dot in the upper right, between the rings? That's no Moon. Magnified in the inset, hey, it's Earth! As snapped by a contender for greatest space artist of all time, Cassini, currently orbiting around Saturn making fantastic discoveries.

All thematic riffs on the PBD, of course, but why wouldn't you love this shot? Only a handful of photographers ever get the opportunity, and it certainly is a lesson in perspective.

Elemental Art

Thin slices of a meteorite, seen through different filters. Or a Warhol piece or knock off. Either way, I'd hang it on my wall. Fun gift idea - framed science pics! Astronomy! Genes! Microscopes! There's a lot of beautiful images. Like this one:
Call me an enormous nerd, sure, but the Periodic Table is a thing of beauty. Its elegance is stunning, and the meaning behind it is profound. The numbers on each element represent the number of protons in the atom's nucleus, and thus also the number of electrons orbiting the nucleus. Dig it: Each new row represents a new electron shell - the orbital paths of the electrons. Hydrogen and Helium have one. Lithium and all the elements in row two have two, Sodium's row has three, and so on. The columns are called Groups and each column has the same number of electrons in its outermost shell, giving each element in the column similar properties, despite the difference in number of electrons. For it is true! All matter is made up of elements - you, me, the tree, the oceans, the Earth, the Sun, all the stars, the vast clouds of gas spanning hundreds of light years, and so on - all just collections of elements. And each element is an atom that becomes the thing we know as Gold or Silver or Oxygen simply based on its number of protons and electrons. Hydrogen has 1 electron, Helium 2, Lithium 3, Iron 26, and so on. And thus our reality is fashioned. It's incredible! And all presented cleanly here in this awesome chart. Awesome work, Dmitri Mendleev!

Bonus element pic:
Earth and our Moon as seen from Mercury. All but vast collections of different elements bound together by gravity.

Born Again

Congrats! We all survived the apocalypse and now reside in a higher vibrational reality - can you feel these good vibes? Try - you can make it so.

Any idea when our next apocalypse is scheduled? My calendar is wide open.

Above, from bottom - Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter at dawn. Loverly.

Magazine subscriptions

That's some serious spreadsheet. Lots of data. Jealous? Curious? You should be - what could be so interesting that requires so many pages?
Muhammad is a long time Elle subscriber and as such he's up to date on current trends and knows confidence comes from the inside, as well as beauty.
In the latest issue, IW focuses on Poplar, the hip, "it" wood.

Dog Mermaids

It's true - think about it. If a mermaid is top half human, bottom half fish, than a seal pretty much fits the definition of dog mermaid. I'm sure dogs have many myths related to the sexy sirens of the sea who bark out at them on the shore, luring them to their DOOM.

Also, Chris Columbus saw some mermaids on his illustrious voyage, but reported they weren't as pretty as he was taught. Consensus was he saw some manatees, and no one could say they are sexy in any way. Except maybe to other manatees.

Gifts for the Gastro Nerd

Nerds love pizza - it's a scientific fact. And what better way to cut a pie than with the USS Enterprise? Beautiful and functional!
Studies have shown using the USS Enterprise baby spoon increases feeding efficiency by 57%, which makes it the only logical gift! The bib is made of futuristic teFlonia Repell_All, and features a sweet drawing of a Klingon ship approaching a Federation space station. Exciting! And awesome.
What Hipster nerd wouldn't want to "cook like Neelix"? Imagine the stories you'll have gathering the different ingredients?! Kazlockian Rock Larvae from the Planet V'Argas 6? Can you out spacespice your friends? Buy now, and find out!

3 Wolf Meme

The original. A sincere work of art, I reckon. Check it out yourself.
The Internet took it ironically, of course. What isn't, or cannot be taken ironically? Nothing! Everything. Meme's are flexible, man. Also, why does Jesus always look like that? Who has any idea what Jesus looked like?
So dang beautiful. A true work of high art. Imagine this in velvet and a classy frame? Epic.
Not so pretty, but the meme repeating in various configurations is beauty in itself - the process. Dialectic ideas replicating and changing in the duplication, over time. And the process will continue as long as the meme is healthy and replicating. When folks stop thinking about it, talking about it, it dies. That's how Gods die, by the by.
Do you remember Okami, the Wolf God? Of course not. He died a long time ago. Forgotten and faded away.

Dark Wings, Dark Words

Little drones building a futuristic castle turret. In this example, everything's pretty small. But imagine scaling the tech up - giant drones capable of hauling enormous weights. All of a sudden towers can reach the heavens themselves.

Synchronized drones are terrifying, to me, for in them I see future swarms of killbots tracking down any remaining people, relentless and numerous beyond count. Small little bots perhaps loaded with poison:
You'd need to be awfully clever to stop swarms of mosquito drones bearing poison.

Brace yourselves, fleshbags, as we are embarking on the robotic age and it is going to get crazy. The smarter the bots and programs become, the more we step aside - let the robots deal with it - trash collection, mining, snow removal, policing, nursing, teaching... Eventually we'll cede enough to them that once they turn smart, they'll have the will and the means to destroy us. And why not? That's what life does. Kills the competition.

But that's some time away, I hope! So for now, enjoy some synchronized drones with color changing LED's: Quadrocopters in Linz Austria.

Beautiful, and eery. The future is going to be interesting looking, at least!

Family

The Obamas. Aren't they beautiful? I'm so proud of our First Family I could go on and on - for reals. They are exemplary.
Amusingly, The Dark Lord Cheney ushered them into Imperial power. Little did he know - how evil is always defeated, by the way. From the most unlikely of places.
That's some serious fun happening right there, yes sir.
A man loved by children is 98% guaranteed cool and awesome. And this love you see here is what we all should be striving for, in both our families and in our respective greater spheres.

Black n' White

A madness has infected America - Wingnuttery. It's a contagion at this point, replicating via right wing radio and tv. This contagion is spreading globally to the detriment of the entirety of humanity. But! This small percentage of infected Americans - usually around 27% full infection, 15-17% partially infected - is growing increasingly marginalized, least of all by the radicalization of the rest of the population. One cannot simply sit back and let evil take over unchallenged. Rohan? Will you stand?

The Wingnuts today are still seeking payback for the impeachment of Nixon - Clinton went down because of this - and view him as a victim of the LIBERAL AGENDA rather than any malevolent being on his own. Also too, given his policies during his Administrations, they'd burn him - but cognitive dissonance is never a problem for the Wingnuts.

Never fear! A Savior came and rescued America from the grip of the LIBERALS:
St. Ronnie Raygun, Bringer of the Madness. At this point, you've got to view Reagan in one of two ways (with some nuance, of course, but not worth discussing with the Wingtards, since nuance is a concept lost upon them): 1. The greatest President evah!, or 2. A dottering fool used to usher in an age of American fascism.

Did you pick #1? You probably HATE this guy then, amirite?
FDR. The DEVIL hisself. I mean, he gave America generations of wealth and comfort for the aged and ill, and oh yeah, won WW2. LIBERAL SCUM!

Not a 'shop, by the way - how awesome is that? Also too, everyone back then was pretty damn ugly  - evolution in action?

Not Redshirts

One might say - might! - that by willingly going in to an obviously doomed situation it is your own fault for the doom that falls upon you, even if you really had nothing to do with it, even if your intents were as pure as a cat's purr...... Or, any situation that can reasonably be foreseen. Another example: In a "bad part of town", you leave your wallet on the car seat with the windows rolled down and hundred dollar bills hanging out. Do you deserve to get it stolen?

Thusly, falling in love with a Redshirt is just asking for heartbreak, since we all should know what happens to Redshirts. But! In the grand scheme of it, are we not all Redshirts? Mortal, fools, fated to be used, doomed to a certain end? So why bother falling in love if it will end - Darwin guarantees it! - in tragic loss?

You know the answer.

Now, onto the show. WARNING! ADULT CONTENT BELOW THE FOLD (speaking of guarantees)!

Sexy Redshirts

The original. And the best - do you remember her dance of seduction? No life form could resist it.
Blue is such a lovely color. And who wouldn't want an extra pair of sensors? Would that not fundamentally alter how you perceive and interact with the world? For instance, maybe you could pick up way more frequencies than with just ears, giving you incredible hearing - radar like - hearing other life form's heart beats, for example, and being able to instinctively gauge their emotional levels via blood pressure and pulse. That would certainly complicate social structures, and require a complex brain.
Theory: A society is defined by its sexual traditions. Since everything every life form does revolves around sex (and food, but even that is in service to sex - since, why else are we here? Except those asexual reproducers, the poor sods), how could it not be so? Everything we do or say or even are can be traced directly back to sex, since that's what sexually reproducing organisms (collectively) MUST do, by genetic LAW: Reproduce. Otherwise, life dies, the genes die, and that's The End.

So go get laid!

Or, also too:
Fret not: Every redshirt can find love. And what's love but code for sex?

I Love the Classics

She's smiling because she knows the subtle pleasures of logic.

Also, Ms. Lisa could totally lose like 5-10 pounds and be super hot. Or get some botox, girl! Tone that face up, you know, more cheekbone.

Also, too: You might be confused over the flow of posts below. Don't be! Blame it on the Great Blogger Outage of Aught 11!
