It reassures me, in some small ways, that crazy right wingers have always been part of America. They've always been filled with hate of the Other - whomever the Other of the day happens to be. They are used by their hate and their fear as a political bloc by the rich and powerful to fight any Progressive action in America. And they mostly lose - even today.
Alas, today they have dedicated TV and radio channels spewing their poison 24/7, and so it seems like their influence is large. And it is, in compared to the past. But they are still a small minority of people, no matter how loud they scream.
Push back. Counter hate with love, lies with truth, insanity with logic. Be patient. Use the Force.

This Machine
With the Industrial Revolution came an entirely new level to the crushing burden workers would bear for the sake of the Owners. Early factories were death pits of torture and suffering, far worse than toiling in the fields previous generations of serfs and slaves endured. And yet, people organized, and with numbers came strength:
Indeed, strength enough to make even Republicans sane. But those days are gone, replaced with greedy morans hell bent on destroying this country and most of its people for a few quick bucks - for them. A lot and lot of bucks for a very small percentage. Let's call them the 1%
You can accept this or deny it, but that matters little. What does matter is whether you are aiding the effort to crush human rights, decent pay, health care, etc, or are fighting it. If fighting, then you must do two things ASAP. Let's cover the first here:
Speak up!
Make your voice heard!
Do whatever it takes to communicate what you think is right and wrong, using whatever medium you can. It matters, in large numbers and by one single person. For example, there are many Americans still vaguely convinced the Republican Party is similar to the party that put out that ad above in 1956. The entire MSM lives this general delusion. We must correct this dangerous misunderstanding.

Tips for Good Parenting
I'm surprised any baby survived the 1950's. Advice like "Eat Uranium!" and "Play with Tacks!" seems foolish nowadays. But who would dare question the Soda Pop Board of America back then?
Or the good folks at Marlboro. Surely a non-over-smoked Mom is a more loving Mom, better able to go about her tasks in the kitchen and elsewhere around the ranch house.
Mom of the year!

Plastic Bag Delivery
The baby is already dead, sadly. Way to go, stork! You didn't know plastic is a barrier to breathing? After how many years on the job? Alas.
Otherwise, cellophane is pretty magical shit. Just not for delivering babies.

I don't feel Tardy
A real toy, from a more innocent time. Tardy, the Man Pony!
Vaguely creepy, and I doubt good company at a Tea Party.

Ice Cold Whisky Machine
And nothing goes better with dispensed Ice Cold Whisky than some fat beats laid down by the mad crazy wicked DJ Nana
As a tangent: You ever notice how old women look back in the 40's/50's? And not just the black and white photos of course, but the style. Granny glasses. Sharp hair. Stern clothing. Old before their time. I wonder how old DJ Nana is here: 40? 50? 60? Maybe even 35? I can't tell.

A gift of war
One of St. Ronnie's gifts to the world was the War on Drugs, which has taken hundreds of thousands lives and ruined so many more, all in the name of attempting to quash human nature. And build up a police state.
That so many rot in jail right now over plants, and the selling and consumption of plants, is madness. And yet, it's the law of the land. For now - times seem to be changing, with medical marijuana laws all over the place and outright possession or consumption quasi-legal in a few others. A bit of sanity creeps slowly back into the public sphere.
For prohibitions do not work, and never have, and never will. Human nature will not allow it. And any law that goes against human nature will reap untold pain and suffering for everyone.
Legalize it, man, and focus instead on rehabilitation of addicts, and enforcing laws regarding drug/alcohol influenced behavior. Let people police themselves and only when they cannot should the State get involved.

Ronaldus Magnus
How strange that once upon a time, for a long time, everyone smoked. A multi-generational cancer upon humanity, encouraged by society and industry, and yes, future Presidents.
No joke. "Ronaldus Magnus" is a nickname Rush Slimeball came up with years ago and the dumb ass dittoheads promptly spread it across the rightwing hivemind. The Wingnuts have deified Reagan, creepily enough, and this Latinization of his name as some sobriquet of Empire is a reflection into their warped, fascist minds. They want to be ruled, and they want to crush those deemed inferior by the Talking Heads. Check it out at TPM.
And yes, I'm equating Reagan with a clown. This freak circus we're living in today was brought to life by St. Ronnie. What's mildly amusing is the policies and statements of Reagan back in the day were mild and moderate compared to today's EXTREME Wingnuts. If you put his policies in writing without attribution they'd claim: Liberal trash.
The worshipers have exceeded their God in piety and devotion, to madness. But, it's true: Far less smoking.

Sugar Krinkles
Sugar Krinkles was the Rice Krispy of the 1950's. For reals. That scary ass Krinkle clown haunted boomer kids at the breakfast table way back when. Explaining the Reagan Revolution. Boomers are wack on Sugar Smacks. And Krinkles.
Seriously, say "Sugar Krinkles" out loud 3 times and see if you don't laugh. It's hilarious.
Also too some postmodern Krinkle art
Accept the fear, and let it pass through you. If a clown comes upon you unexpected, you'll be ready...

Finnish Fashion
Some Finnish hipster kids. From a Finnish fashion blog, here. Enjoy!
To belabor the rant, let me make some superficial judgments: These kids have their own mobile phones, they play video games a good portion of the day, they chat, they text, they watch a lot of tv. What are the odds they're whiny brats? Or will grow up to be selfish jerks? Since their Finnish, perhaps less than were these lads American, but the odds lean that way. In my opinion!
How can these kid's lifestyles compare to the lives of the kids in the post below? Not much. And so you see - OBJECTIVELY - how the kids these days (since 1945 or so) are taking this world to Heck in a Hand Basket, and all the Old Coots are right: These young whipper snappers are ruining everything!
Don't get me wrong - I grew up in front of the tv and had one of the first Atari home game systems - Pong ruled, dawg. I'm fully immersed in the generations undergoing this transformative shift. I'm just a hypocritical fossil and like to Lament shit. But I'm up front about it. My generation sucks, as does my Fathers, and I'm sure the generations to come will suck just as much. We all suck!

The Softer Side of Sears (1958)
Angels of the night, in red and pink flammable lace, bearing torches testifying their undying love for you. Till they burn up. Wait, did people still use candles as a regular lighting source in 1958? Inquiring minds want to know. This is a scan from the 1958 Sears Catalog. You remember that, right? Not 1958, mind you, but the Sears Catalog. I sure do - I'd spend countless hours reviewing the toy section, then the sports and camping pages. By the time I would have appreciated this
I had moved on to Cosmo and the "Sports" Illustrated swimsuit issue. Times change. Anyways, check out these ladies! The body type is still generally considered "ideal", save perhaps for the lack of breast implants. But now, consider this:
Hark! These girls were considered chubby in 1958. Also, "chubby" was a perfectly acceptable marketing word. Awesome! But behold how thin these girls are compared to the bloated fatbags that make up a goodly percentage of children (and adults) today. What's happened? Unbridled wealth? TV? Wal Mart? Republicans? Probably!
