Palin is a more organic (that is, from the Teabag bottom up rather than from the elites on high) version of the same phenomena, but even somehow more incompetent, and thankfully we still reside in a reality where competence counts for something.

Lessons from St. Ronaldus

I just finished the book Nixonland and highly recommend. Kinda scary. But relevant to our times, for we are living in the reality of the true Revolution of the 1960's, and that was the Conservative (Wingnut) Revolution. The Triumph of the John Birch Brigade. Three men were in large part responsible for this Revolution - Goldwater, who was rightly considered the loon he was; Nixon, of course, who was a grab bag of resentments and hypocrisy, and good old St. Ronnie, who coulda run for President in 1968 and probably won. What Reagan gave us was the victory of the actor.

 An actor with little knowledge of the issues but with a good sense on how to move a crowd. An entertainer's skill transferred to politics. The politician as actor, the actor as politician - none of it real, all a facade, an empty chalice in which the Agenda (plot) is poured within. And so today, we have the Republican Party, devoted to the legacy of The Great Man Reagan, giving us

chewing tobacco. Yay, chaw! Freedom to be fat and get mouth cancer then go die and in the street cuz you ain't takin' no OBAMERCARE! Yeehaw, America!

If you recall, humor was Reagan's main charm. And he was good at it, relatively. Today's Repukes? Not so much. Do you know of any truly funny right wingers? And for that, again, we should feel blessed with good fortune.

The Turn of the Tide

Premise: Sarah Palin represents the modern Republican Party. From the lack of knowledge, to the cognitive dissonance, to the appeals to hate and fear, she near perfectly summarizes everything the modern Republican party has become. She's not a white male, though, so there's some variance (Paul Ryan is the 2012 version). But for this post, she suffices perfectly.

For, you see, back in 2008 we were told that she was going to be the spark that lit the fires of Republican re-ascendency. She was anything but - rather, a ridiculous anchor that helped sink the McCain campaign. She was an obvious fraud and grifter to me from the get go, but I'm ahead of the curve. It took a couple of more years for a good portion of America to catch up. It was a cumulative effect, starting with perhaps this:

The awesome turkey slaughter interview. Real America! And then she resigned the governorship of Alaska in order "to lead", cause governing is hard, of course. And there's much more money to be had in reality tv. Then this:

Which I posit was the straw breaking the dam, as decent everyday folks who were not paying enough attention finally came to the realization of the monster that lurked beneath the glasses. Which then swiftly led to

The grifting well drying up. And if you can't grift, you can't be a Republican of note these days. Which leads me to:

Super Sarah earlier this year, backing the failed Republican Missouri Senate run by fellow Wingnut Sarah Steelman. Check out the outfit! Is there any better picture which shows that the Republican party has become nothing more than a collection of grifters and C level reality tv stars? I think not! Palin was in no way a contender for the crown of 2012 Republican nominee for President, and her stock has fallen so low she was not even invited to speak at the Gathering of the Wingnuts, AKA, the Republican Convention. But then, neither was W or Dick. That past didn't happen! 

LOL! Sanity. This was from early 2010 - what a hoot! Can you imagine what a disaster such a ticket would have been? Even though it's hard to imagine a bigger disaster than the current Romney/Ryan clown show. Sanity!

Conclusion: Sarah's fall parallels the turning of the tide against Republican insanity, and once Barack crushes Mitt this election and the House returns to Democrat control, we'll be well on our way towards winning against these forces of regression and idiocy. Or at least I hope! Do what you can to make it happen.

Calm like a Bomb

There's always been crazy ass Americans. Difference is these days, they've got the keys to the kingdom, and are calling all the shots. Which are crazy. Pray a Perry or FSM help us all a Palin doesn't get elected. It'll be the end of us all.

Nuclear explosion during a good old fashioned Nevada detonation. It's beautiful, in a "UR F'd" kinda way. Powered by nuclear fission, which is quite simply splitting a heavy element into lighter elements. This splitting releases energy, and a chain reaction event releases a metric fuckton of death waves. An explosion like the above probably used only a teaspoonful of matter. You, right now, have the power of many, many nuclear bombs packed inside your body.

Think of it! We are near a day when some crazy hustler Holy Roller could get the codes to launch nuclear weapons. Religion and Science, together at last! It's like a cautionary sci-fi yarn.

Remember: These are the same folks who are rooting on the Rapture. FSM help us all if they can actually push the Big Red Button.

Slouching Towards Bethlehem

A modern classic. You know that saying "I  don't know art, but I know what I like"? Well, I like this. A lot. And it's clearly art! Its all in there - click for big and take a gander at the wonder. It's our cartoon world - the very "real world" of Washington and Hollywood - the two capitals of modern fiction.

Another classic. I may have posted each of these before - sue me. They're great. This painting reminds me of the cliche but awesomely kick ass poem (one of the few in existence, believe me!) by William Butler Yeats, "The Second Coming":

Awesome, right? Like a horror movie. And I think it's sadly appropriate for our times. As with everything, there are forces that wax and wane, there are times when the forces of Progress are on the march, and times when the forces of Regression are, and most of the time there is an interplay between these forces. Right now, in America at least, there is great progress on the raw demographic level - we will be that Melting Pot we were all taught America is supposed to be. But clearly - watch Fox News for a few moments, or listen to Rush - the forces of Regression are fired up and have pitchforks and torches in hand.


The question is: Can we withstand them, outlast them, and defuse them? Only time will tell - I won't care (never do ["lack all conviction"]!), since from the mountaintop it's all pretty much the same. But I'm rooting for Progress nonetheless.


Also, too: Slouching Towards Bethlehem is the name of a great - perhaps the greatest - episode of Angel. If you've ever thought about watching the show but weren't sure it was for you, check this Season 4 episode out. If you don't like it, don't bother watching anything else.

 All these pics are from the incredible Stewart/Colbert rally this past weekend in DC. I was inspired for no other reason than 1. It's always nice to see large groups of people who believe in many of things you do, especially after 2 years of artificial coverage of these teabaggin' fools. And 2. They correctly identified the real villain in our current tragedy, or at least a villain we can tackle: the media itself. 

 To wit: Because the MSM seeks ratings in order to obtain advertising revenue, they are hardwired to egg on conflict, to play to the extreme, to maximize drama, etc. All for the eyeballs, just like any TV show. But should the news hold itself to the same standards as, say, "Jersey Shore". It shouldn't, but it does. And this needs to be made clear to everyone.

 Which is the final point Stewart had to make: Sure, you have disagreements all the time in a democracy, but that's what the process is all about. No need to resort to calling your opponent - whomever it is - Hitler, just because he holds a different view. But in this atmosphere of extremism, Fox is doing nothing but stirring this pot. And when they stir, hundreds of others fall in line. If we cannot talk reasonably to each other, than talking will cease, and violence will begin.

In my darker moments, I fear that's the point entirely. Never, ever forget this: The Oligarch's main tool of control is "Divide and Conquer", specifically by pitting disenfranchised groups against each other. Poor Whites v. African Americans, for example. Logically, both groups likely have 98% of the same concerns, yet because of this "Divide and Conquer" tactic, they are at each other's throats. While at each other's throats, they forget their similarities and focus on the anger, and in so doing, while this is going on, the Oligarchs get whatever it is they want (almost always: Power, money).

2010 is just a prelude in the crazy, of course. The election of 2012 starts tonight as well, alas. And here's your nightmare doomsday scenario:

Where were these people when Bush was running up historical deficits, and actually curbing Constitutional rights? and 2. Remember whenever a Democrat criticized a Repuglican plan or policy? TREASON!!!! But now, it's A-OK to make the most debased claims against the Commander-in-Chief. Again, all within their rights - but does hypocrisy mean nothing to these morans?

Of course not. Cognitive Dissonance is their operational mode, at all times. There are no limits to the contradictory notions these folks can juggle in their confused heads.

And thus, facts don't matter, truth doesn't matter, all that matters, as always I might add, but so nakedly apparent here, is the "Will to Power".

This is a common phenomena in any Imperial enterprise, of course. The reasons for doing anything get lost, and all that remains is the unabashed desire for money and/or power.

Before the festivities formally again, let me take a moment to again sing the praises of William Shatner. Yes, Kirk was awesome - but let us not forget the cool efficiency of TJ Hooker. But even moreso, Shatner has made a career out of mocking himself, and/or others at the same time. For a great example of this, look up on the Google machine "Shatner Palin Spoken Word" and let the laughs commence - think Shatner's version of "Lucy in the sky with diamonds". 

And here we witness the real power of the Shat - famewhore Palin getting an autograph. Ha.

Meanwhile, in the EVIL Universe....

It's always important to take a step back from your day and to day and consider some of things you're grateful for. Example: Imagine if these two clowns were in charge. I suspect the Earth would already be a flaming ball of "salvation", just a'waiting for the Lord to come on down and fix it up. 

My friends, take this as proof that while we may be living in an Evil Reality, it gets a lot Eviler. Count your blessings!

Hot babes can show off their ignorance and true moral bankruptcy by making funny "ha-ha's" on T-Shirts; isn't torture funny? But make no mistake: If the American Taliban had their way, I suspect there would be nothing different other than some particulars with Sharia Law. Regardless, there were true believers in the crowd. These folks are scary - they'd sell themselves out for less than a song or dance. They are the true fodder of this world - just waiting to be told what to do. And of course, the power hungry are always looking for these people. And believe you me: If the Repuglicans take either or both the Houses this Fall, all will we see/hear about is the dynamic between these two groups - the 27%er's (The Tea Party/Wingnut base) and those the use this group to accomplish their own ends (usually Corporate/personal wealth).
